After Halloween: Pumpkin Stains, Egg, and Decor Cleanup for Delta & Surrey Homes
Halloween on a Delta or Surrey house usually means a porch, a walkway, and a few windows. The morning after October 31 often leaves rotting pumpkin on the steps, egg on the siding or the glass, and fake cobweb or tape still stuck to the railings. A Pacific front will sit on that mess if you leave it there.

The morning after October 31 often leaves rotting pumpkin on the steps, egg on the siding or the glass, and fake cobweb or tape still stuck to the railings. A Pacific front will sit on that mess if you leave it there.
This is the week before Halloween and the week after: pumpkin stains, egg on the house and on cars in the driveway, cobweb, tape, wax, soggy decor, and how that cleanup fits Christmas lights in Delta, Surrey, and the rest of the Lower Mainland. A rinse or a wash does not guarantee every mark lifts once sugar, protein, or wax has sat through rain.
The broader fall sequence, from gutters through to lights, lives in our guide to hanging lights on a clean house. This piece stays on the Halloween layer those jobs do not mention.
Before October 31, keep the mess off the surfaces you care about
Halloween is Saturday, October 31. Use the dry afternoons before then so your own decor is not the stain. A visitor can still leave an egg you did not plan.
- Keep pumpkins off the paint. Set them on a tray or the lawn, not on a painted tread or a cedar deck. Paint and soft wood hold the sugar, and a wet week in Ladner, Tsawwassen, or a shady Surrey yard speeds the collapse.
- Put cobweb on shrubs, not on glass. It looks fine in a cedar. On a window, a railing, or the gutter lip it becomes residue, and that lip is where light clips need a solid seat.
- Use tape you can peel. Choose a tape meant to release, and peel it while the frame is dry. A week of Lower Mainland rain turns a lot of temporary tape into glue.
- Keep wax off the boards. A plate helps a little. It does not guarantee a clean board if the candle tips. Keep open flame off the walking surface, and follow the fire rules where you live. We clean residue. We do not set up flames.
- Leave the light line clear. If Christmas lights are booked, keep tape, mesh, and suction cups off the fascia, the eaves, and the gutter lip.
Rotting pumpkin stains on steps and porches
A pumpkin is mostly water and sugar. On a cool, wet porch the pulp smears and the orange turns brown. Rain spreads it across a walkway already full of maple leaves and cedar needles. If an atmospheric river follows Halloween, that film can stay damp for days, which is a slip concern as well as a stain.
Scoop pulp, rind, and seeds into the yard-waste stream your city accepts before you add water. A broom on wet sugar grinds it into the concrete. A pressure washer on a pile of pulp sprays the siding, the garden, and the car in the driveway.
- Concrete steps and a plain walkway. After the solids are up, a cool rinse helps. A later pressure wash is for the shadow, the same kind of fall hardscape clean we describe for patios and paths. It does not guarantee a tint lifts if the sugars sat through several wet days.
- Painted steps, wood porches, and composite. High pressure can lift paint and fuzz the grain. Rinse with a hose. A stained wall wants the approach in our fall soft wash for siding, not a rental tip on full blast.
- A deck that stayed wet. Pulp under a doormat holds moisture on the board. Lift the mat, then wash. Pressure can drive sugar into soft grain.
If decor landed in the gutter, leave the ladder in the garage. Gutter cleaning removes the debris, flushes the downspout, and checks the run. A porch wash does not clear the spout or repair a gutter that has pulled away. We are fully insured. A cleaning does not guarantee the trough is undamaged.
Egg on siding, windows, and cars in the driveway
Treat egg the same day if you can. The white is protein, and on paint, vinyl, or glass it dries into a harder film. Hot water or a pressure blast can set it, and a blast can drive it into paint texture and screen mesh. Cool water is the safer first move. Skip the pressure washer while the egg is still wet.
- Siding. Rinse with cool water from the top of the splash down. Do not use a high-pressure tip on fresh egg. If a haze remains after it dries, soft wash is the gentler follow-up on painted and vinyl walls. A rinse does not guarantee the film is gone if the egg dried in the sun first.
- Windows. Cool water first, then a window washing visit once the obvious protein is off the glass. Do not scrape with a metal blade unless you already know that pane can take it. Rinse a screen gently. Blasting mesh can tear it.
- Cars in the driveway. Use cool water and a soft cloth, and skip hot water. A house pressure washer is the wrong tool on a car. We clean the steps, the siding, and the walkway beside the driveway. A house visit is not a car detail, and it does not guarantee a dried mark leaves the clear coat.
Fake cobweb, tape, candle wax, and soggy decor
Wind plasters synthetic cobweb onto a wet railing, tape turns to glue, and a candle weeps wax the first time a front soaks the deck. Foam and cardboard hold water against the step.
- Cobweb. Pull the strands by hand. Glass residue belongs in the window wash. Railing residue wants a gentle clean, not a blast that feathers the finish.
- Tape. Peel it on the driest afternoon you can get. Do not scour glass or a coated railing. A wash does not guarantee every glue ghost leaves a frame that stayed wet.
- Candle wax. Lift solid wax when the deck is as dry as the week allows. A flat plastic scraper beats a pressure tip, which can push wax into the grain. A wash does not guarantee every spot leaves the wood.
- Soggy decor. Lift foam, fabric, and cardboard before the next rain if you can. Take any eave strand down before Christmas clips go on that board.
A simple order for the mess
Solids and fresh egg come off before any machine. Delicate surfaces stay off the high-pressure list. This is a starting point for a Delta or Surrey house, and it does not guarantee every mark leaves.
| What you are looking at | First move | What a later wash is for |
|---|---|---|
| Rotting pumpkin on concrete steps | Scoop rind, pulp, and seeds before you add water | Pressure wash the shadow after the solids are gone. An old tint may remain. |
| Pumpkin on paint, wood, or composite | Lift the pulp and rinse gently. Do not blast it. | A wash chosen for that surface. High pressure can lift paint and fuzz grain. |
| Fresh egg on siding, glass, or a car | Cool water the same day. No pressure blast and no hot water. | A soft wash or window wash on the house. The car is not part of the visit. |
| Egg that has already dried | Cool rinse first. Do not scrub it dry into the paint. | A gentle follow-up on siding and glass. Dried egg on a car needs a detailer. |
| Fake cobweb and tape | Pull strands, and peel tape while the surface is dry if you can | Window washing for glass haze, and a light clean for railing residue. |
| Candle wax and soggy decor on a wet deck | Lift chunks and decor. Keep wax out of the grain. | A deck clean once the boards can dry a little. Pressure will not pull wax out of soft wood. |
When you book, name the step, the splash, and whether lights are already on the calendar. Photos help.
Get the exterior clean before the Christmas lights go up
On a lot of Delta and Surrey houses, Halloween week and light-install week are the same stretch. Installs on this site run from October 1. Crews are normally fully booked by the middle of November, and bookings close December 10, 2026. Clips sit on the fascia, the eaves, and the gutter lip, and tape or wet maple leaves are a poor seat.
A pumpkin shadow and an egg haze read louder once the LEDs are on. Install day and the night the house glows do not have to match. A timer can hold the display, as in installing Christmas lights in October and setting the timer. Finish the cleaning before the hang.
- Clear the light line first. Take Halloween hardware off the fascia, eaves, gutters, and front windows.
- Deal with egg and pumpkin before the wash. The crew should not blast fresh protein or grind pulp into the tread.
- Wash concrete once the solids are gone. Siding film is a soft wash. That method is part of pressure washing, and the wall is not a driveway blast.
- Wash the glass after cobweb and egg film are rinsed. A window wash does not replace peeling the tape.
- Clear gutters if decor and the late leaf drop packed the trough. Clean gutters at least twice a year. Clips and a spilling corner do not belong in the same week.
Christmas light installation uses drill-less clips on fascia, eaves, and gutters, with a free 48-hour service guarantee if a light fails. That guarantee covers the lights, not a pumpkin stain. The package is on the Christmas lighting page. Booking Christmas lights early is how a mid-November date stays realistic.
A house starts with residential exterior cleaning. A shared entry is commercial and strata work, and we are fully licensed and insured for commercial work. Check the rules before you peel tape off a common railing.
Quick answers
Should I pressure wash the steps the morning after Halloween?
Scoop the chunks first. Bare concrete can take a pressure wash after that. Painted steps and wood should not get a blast. A wash does not guarantee an old shadow disappears.
Egg hit the siding and a car in the driveway. Can I blast it off?
No. Cool water the same day, and keep the pressure washer off fresh egg and off the car. We wash the house around the driveway. We do not detail vehicles, and a rinse does not guarantee a dried mark leaves the paint.
Will window washing remove cobweb and tape?
It handles film on the glass after you pull the bulk off. Peel tape while the frame is dry. Do not scrape with a metal blade unless you already know that pane can take it.
When should this happen if Christmas lights are going up?
Before the clips. Installs run from October 1, crews are normally fully booked by mid-November, and bookings close December 10, 2026. Clear the lip, then wash, then hang. The 48-hour service guarantee covers a failed light, not a stain.
Does a professional wash promise a spotless porch?
No. We clean the surfaces the visit includes, and we are fully insured. Sugar, dried egg, and wax that sat through a wet week can leave a trace. A cleaning does not guarantee a mark is gone.
Clear the Halloween mess before the lights go up
Late October in Delta and Surrey is a short gap. The maples are still dropping, and the heavy rain is not finished. Pulp, egg, and wet decor left on the porch stay slick into November, and they are a poor backdrop for lights.
If the steps are stained, the siding or the glass took egg, or tape and cobweb are still on the railings, tell us what is on the house, what you already rinsed, and whether Christmas lights are booked. We will quote the exterior clean for a home in Delta, Surrey, or the rest of the Lower Mainland. You can also call 778-652-5906.
